Women Are Targeted

An eye opening video, this video goes onto state some of the ugly truths that are still omnipresent in our world right now. This video talks about how young women have more to worry about their image as a whole going into school. Women can't just focus on their career in work or school, instead they are pressured by society to always keep a certain type of image. There were some younger girls in the video who said that it was awful that along with their grades they also had to make sure they weren't over weight and that they put on a lot of make up. These types of society stressors put on these girls just brought them down and didn't let them fully concentrate on their work in school.

Besides these facts, this video also goes on to discuss how all of the best women out there are the ones that the media always hits hard. It is so sad to see that the media always focuses on a woman's body instead of their intellect thus creating consciousness.Women like Rice, Clinton, and yes even Sarah Pallin are women that have reached a very succesful level in life. Even though these women are this far high in life, they are still brought down in the eyes of regular citizens because of the media. Besides these women there are others that are shown in magazines and on tv shows and advertisements. These women are always put down in the way that they are portrayed to the regular public. It is sad to see that women have become so vulnerable even with all they do and contribute to the world in this day.

All the different women in this video talk about how thought they are considered equal to women, they are actually put down in a lot of different ways by society. Due to all of the different clips by different women I believe that this video arises pathos in the viewer. It is really strong in the way it comes out and relies its message. Most women and younger girls just have come to take some of these situations as stereotypical norms but others are attempting to finally change them. This video makes an emotional connection to the viewer, especially if it is a viewer of the female gender. After watching this video even I had something arise inside of me that said that I should rise up and attempt to change these stereotypical norms that still barricade our society today.

  1. I was watching a show a few weeks ago that had one of the Princesses of Saudi Arabia on it. She was working to improve the lives of women in the Kingdom and one of the key points that she brought up was "A country where half of the population is prohibited from contributing meaningfully to society cannot move forward in the 21st century. While women in America are certainly given more rights than those in Saudi Arabia, I think the saying still applies.

The main argument of this video is that women are objectified. Obviously, this is nothing new. What I find interesting is that in today's world, Men are becoming just as objectified. There are exceptions to every rule (Jonah Hill, Melissa McCarthy), but for the most part, both sexes are pressured to look a certain way.

  2. I will say there is some bias towards the women of society. However, I will note that they tend to poke fun at certain women because they are esay to target. By this I particularly mean Sarah Palin. The movie, Game Change really makes you feel sorry for her. If you ever get the chance to see it. It is an HBO film. It shows the media's perception of her and how really she was not qualified to be vice president.

  3. Reading this is funny to me because there are morning where I put on every clothing I own on until I find one perfect. When I get dressed, I consider what hairstyle goes with my outfit. Although I rarely wear makeup, it takes me a lot of time to get ready in the morning. It's like a whole thought process. Nonetheless, I love my image no matter what. I think it is sad that women are targets through media and the stereotypes of us are ridiculous; but we are easily targeted because we are easily influenced. Because we are easily influenced, it is perceived that males can force us to think, look, and act the way they want us to. The scary thing is, we do it. We want someone to love/like us, and even if we don't leave the best impression, at least we left one.

  4. I think that imaige IS important. I think that if you look good, people respect you more, and one feels better about him or her self. We all want to look good. What society has done, in my opinion is twisted the idea of looking good to looking sexual. I know that in most European cultures, how one looks is very important. People are scared to leave their houses in sweatpants because it is not socially acceptable and I for one am a fan of this. I think that image is important to some degree but I think the media has sexualized our concept of "looking good"
